Atomic Gardening, my documentary exploring the life and work of atomic dreamer Muriel Howorth, is being played on arts radio station Resonance FM tonight (8pm Friday 28 March).

The show includes some fascinating insights from geneticist and cancer expert Kat Arney and Paige Johnson, a nanotechnologist and historian of gardening. I’m hugely grateful to them for their time and expertise. Thanks also to Colin Uttley for his male vocals and percussionist Stephen Hiscock for his glorious interpretation of atomic ballet Isotopia.

MurielIf you listened to the show, I do hope you enjoyed it. In a new spirit of ‘getting things done’, I threw it together in a single day, almost like an improvisation. I made a point of not constantly refining and stopping to listen back as I worked. When the documentary goes on air, I’ll be hearing it for the first time.

I’ll be putting it on my Soundcloud page in a few days time, with any essential revisions. Meanwhile, here’s a link to that photo of Muriel presenting a model of the lithium atom to a thrilled Mayor of Eastbourne. This is on Paige’s garden history blog which is well worth delving into. I think the photo may have come from Muriel’s trunk of photos, notes and newspaper cuttings, left to her family.
