Spring 2011: I’m currently putting together some videos of my live act. In the meantime, I hope these odds and ends give you an idea of my approach to sound, music and the history of tech:
The Ealing Feeder – mechanical bell rig (video: Roger Spy).
The Reverb Jam – extemporising in the reverb chambers of the National Physical Laboratory (take 1)
Reverb Jam -extemporising in the reverb chambers of the National Physical Laboratory (footage from New Scientist). I’m on theremin – the ‘cellist is Stephen Wolff.
Moon of Alabama – Early test with Hugo the vent doll, saw and bells (this is before I managed to get Hugo’s head moving).
Uncanny Valley – promo for show by Spacedog and Prof. Elemental (2010)
Electroplasm – promo for show which mixed live musicĀ with a theatrical reconstruction of a Victorian seance (Spacedog with Richard Wiseman)
Ventricle – a blood-red handbag which moves like a human heart (exhibited at House of Fairy Tales and Kinetica)
Loving the Machine – my talk for TEDx, Brighton, January 2011
Reverb Jam – playing the waterphone in the reverb chambers of the National Physical Laboratory (replayed backwards so you can hear the tail of the reverb)
Diamonds are Forever – Spacedog cover this John Barry classic.
Get Carter – feat. polite robot thereminist Clara 2.0
Troika on an early version of my carillon (I later revamped this to make the Ealing Feeder). Uncanny Valerie plays bells.
Swinging London – cheap and cheerful puppet show in a shed outside the Royal Festival Hall. To celebrate the re-opening of the hall.
