A talk, aimed at people who want to use robotics in theatre or musical performance:

I’ll be discussing the recent debut of Trace – a participative music and poetic robotics project. In this piece, traces of people past and present reveal themselves, as they’re embedded in cups, slide projectors and other discarded objects in the room.

Funded by Arts Council England, Trace was first presented as a coherent 20-minute performance with theatre maker Emma Kilbey at Minerva Works (for Vivid), Birmingham, as part of the Supersonic 2015 weekend. The piece has been developed during a part-time residency at the Pervasive Media Studio, Bristol.

I’ll be discussing the strengths and weaknesses of our first performance. I’ll use this discussion as a framework to explore ways to develop coherence, creative pieces that are rich in narrative but deploy technology.
